WATCH “GHOSTED” – Stephanie’s Journey: Part 3
Imagine this: You got the interview! You’ve invested weeks in the process. Hours of research and prep. Multiple interviews. And even promises from the hiring team that you’re a top candidate.
Then…
Silence.
Stephanie Got Ghosted
“15 interviews with one company,” Stephanie told me. “The hiring manager specifically said to me, ‘Do not take a job until you talk to us.'” And then, “I got ghosted.”
When candidates get ghosted, it’s more than inconvenient—it can be demoralizing. It can chip away at your confidence and makes you question your worth.
The truth is, ghosting is not personal. It’s not a judgment against you as an individual.
Remember the Human Part
Candidates won’t remember the recruiter’s name—but they will remember the company’s name. This is what many talent acquisition teams fail to understand: Every interaction represents their organization.
When candidates are ghosted, a clear message is sent about your company’s values. If they treat potential employees this way, how do they treat their actual employees?
Ghosting points to something deeper in today’s hiring landscape. Too many organizations have become so automated and AI-focused that they’ve forgotten the human part of putting people to work.
I urge my clients to always remember that the entire hiring process should have empathy, heart and purpose. Never forget it.
Make sure the candidate experience you provide speaks well about your company culture.
